A cyber-attack has impacted more than 300 Spar outlets throughout the north of England, forcing several to close their doors. Unknown threat actors attacked James Hall & Company in Preston, Lancashire, on Sunday, which runs Spar’s tills and IT systems and supplies merchandise to hundreds of Spar locations across the north of England.
According to a spokeswoman for Spar, who talked to The Mirror, “We are now aware of a cyber attack on our IT systems at James Hall.
“Over the last 24 hours, this has impacted about 330 Spar outlets across the north of England, and we are trying to rectify the problem as swiftly as possible.
“Due to the inability of retailers to process card payments, a number of Spar locations are now closed to customers or only accept cash payments. We apologize for the trouble this is causing our clients, and we are trying to rectify the matter as fast as possible.”
The shop owners and their related staffs are unable to run the businesses as a result of the “complete outage,” since they are unable to accept any card payments because the systems have been locked. However, some of the chain’s distant outlets are still open, although they are only accepting cash transactions for groceries.
