What is CompTIA A+?

The CompTIA A+ certification is vendor-neutral. The CompTIA A+ certification is the most acceptable way to get started in information technology, and it introduces the basics of hardware, computer systems, and networking. This credential is for an entry-level IT Professional and it consists of two exams. This certification examines candidates’ knowledge of a wide range of critical technologies, including security, networking, virtualization, and more.

The exam codes 220-1001 (Core 1) and 220-1002 (Core 2) are for prior versions of the CompTIA A+ certification exam. On October 20, 2022, this exam will be discontinued. The latest CompTIA A+ core series are 220-1101 (Core 1) and 220-1102 (Core 2), released on April 20, 2022. The Core 1 exam covers mobile devices, networking technologies, hardware, virtualization, and cloud computing and Core 2 exam includes operating systems, security, software, and operational processes. To earn this certification, candidates must pass both 220-1101 and 220-1102 exams. Exams from different series cannot be combined.

• Indicates the increasing use of software-as-a-service applications for remote work
• Includes more emphasis on troubleshooting and remote diagnosis and correction of standard software, hardware, and communication issues
• Focuses on the changes in the underlying technology, such as cloud virtualization and internet of things (IoT) device security, data management and scripting with a greater emphasis
• Examines deeper into laptop security, including biometrics, face and fingerprint recognition, data transfer to SSD drives, the most up-to-date display technologies
• The focus is on small office/home office (SOHO) network deployment and management
• Newer technologies like Cat 6a, Double Data Rate 5 (DDR5), 3-D printers will be included in the hardware
• Desktop virtualization and client-side virtualization will receive more attention
• Includes coverage of leading operating systems, their applications, how to keep them up to date and run smoothly
• The fundamentals of scripting so that help desk technicians and technical support professionals understand what they’re looking at when they come across code

The CompTIA A+ certification is divided into two exams, core 1 and core 2, covering nine domains.

1. Mobile devices:

• Installing and configuring laptop and hardware components
• Configuring basic network connectivity and application support for mobile devices

2. Networking:

• Types of networks, ports, and connections (TCP/IP, UDP ports, Wifi, etc.)
• Installing and configuring a primary wired/wireless SOHO network

3. Hardware:

• Identifying, using, and connecting hardware components and devices
• Installing and configuring motherboards, CPUs, and add-on cards

4. Virtualization and cloud computing:

• Setting up client-side virtualization and comparing cloud ideas

5.  Hardware and network troubleshooting:

• Troubleshooting issues with motherboards, RAM, CPUs, and power supplies
• Solving issues with devices and networks

CompTIA A+ 220-1102 (Core 2) Domains

1.Operating systems:

• Installing and configuring Windows OS and understanding Mac OS, Linux,
• Comparing features of Microsoft windows

2. Security:

• Identifying and protecting vulnerabilities and threats in both devices and networks using suitable tools and approaches
• Configuring security on SOHO wireless and wired networks

3. Software troubleshooting:

• Troubleshooting issues with the Microsoft Windows operating system, as well as mobile operating systems and applications
• Troubleshooting and fixing PC security problems

4. Operational procedures:

• Implementing best practices and procedures for safety, sustainability, communication, and professionalism
