Taiwanese Authorities Identify Chinese Hacker Behind Hospital Cyberattack

Taiwanese police have identified Lo Chengyu, a Chinese national from Zhejiang Province, as the hacker responsible for breaching MacKay Memorial Hospital’s system. After a failed US$100,000 ransom demand, Lo attempted to sell the personal data of 16.6 million patients. Authorities have issued a wanted notice, making him the first Chinese hacker officially identified by Taiwan. Investigators linked Lo to 11 cyberattacks in recent months, revealing his involvement in extortion schemes totaling up to US$2.5 million.
