Home Improvement Firm Fined £200,000 for Making 675,478 Nuisance Calls

For making more than half a million unwanted marketing calls in nine months, a home renovation firm was fined £200,000. According to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), Home2Sense Ltd of Lampeter, Wales, made 675,478 nuisance calls between June 2020 and March 2021, promoting insulation services to customers enrolled with the Telephone Preference Service (TPS).

It is prohibited to contact anybody registered with the TPS for more than 28 days unless that person has directly informed the corporation that they do not object to receiving such calls, according to the UK’s Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR).

One upset victim reported a contact centre marketer sought to talk to their late mother, who had gone away a decade ago, among the dozens of complaints sent to the ICO about Home2Sense’s marketing methods.

“Home2Sense’s dismissive approach, coupled with its attempts to deflect responsibility for compliance with the law onto its employees, demonstrates a complete disregard for people’s privacy rights,” said Ken Macdonald, head of ICO regions.

Fines for nuisance calls were among the most likely to be unpaid, with nearly 80% remaining unpaid.
