Adhering to the October 2021 merger of antivirus giant McAfee Enterprise and cybersecurity experts FireEye, parent firm Symphony Technology Group (STG) has announced that the two companies will unite to create Trellix. Symphony Technology Group, a private equity firm, announced the launch of Trellix, a supplier of extended detection and response (XDR) systems, on Wednesday.
It’s been a long and unusual journey. The McAfee brand currently belongs to a company that focuses entirely on consumer protection, while the McAfee enterprise business unit was sold to STG for $4 billion in cash in March 2021. After FireEye broke from Mandiant in October, STG combined it with FireEye Solutions, which includes network, email, endpoint, and cloud security products as well as security management and orchestration platform.
Trellix was chosen as the name for the relaunch because it conjures the construction of a trellis, which is a robust and safe framework for supporting the organized development of climbing plants and trees.
Customers will receive ‘living security,’ which is the notion of systems that can learn and adapt to battle growing cyber threats. Trellix’s XDR platform includes over 600 native and open security technologies that give security analysts the information they need to respond rapidly to attacks.
